Leading industrial trainer and manufacturer of safety and fire protection products, AIS, has been named Exporter of the Year in the prestigious British Chambers of Commerce Chamber Awards.
The North Shields firm beat hundreds of companies from across the UK to take the trophy at a glittering awards ceremony in London last night, where judges heard how AIS has experienced a phenomenal 80% growth year-on-year with 70% of its manufacturing output being exported to 30 countries worldwide.
As well as delivering world-class industrial training from its state-of-the-art offshore training village in North Shields, AIS designs, manufactures and installs lifesaving fire protection and insulation jacketing systems for the oil and gas, petrochemical and heavy industry sectors.
Since the company’s inception in 2006, it has grown from a team of two to a multi-million pound global business employing 150 people at sites across the UK and internationally.
AIS invests heavily in research and development and has recently launched several cutting-edge, innovative products including the world’s thinnest fire protection jackets which protect offshore structures from the heat extremes of a jet fire for between 30-120 lifesaving minutes to enable personnel to escape in an emergency. It has also recently received type approval from independent global verifiers – DNV-GL and Lloyds Register for a revolutionary new product range which can be manufactured in any shape required by industry and can withstand temperature extremes for the longest duration currently available.
AIS’s impressive achievements made it a clear winner for the title.
Managing director and owner of AIS, Paul Stonebanks, said: “We are delighted to have scooped this prestigious national title. Our success is increasingly being recognised by the wider business community and this is the latest in a long line of awards for AIS – including a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
“Innovation is at the company’s heart and we have invested heavily in research and development to ensure our products and services are the most advanced in the world. This approach is clearly paying off as our global reputation for world-leading products and services grows. We have seen huge growth in exporting and expect this to continue as we enter new international territories such as North and South America.”
