AIS wins North Tyneside Council contract to insulate buildings.

Thursday 03 September 2015

AIS has scooped a contract to manufacture and fit its award-winning industrial insulation jackets  within North Tyneside Council’s buildings in a bid to cut the Council’s energy bill and carbon footprint.

Almost 800 bespoke insulation jackets will be manufactured by AIS at our state-of-the-art North Shields manufacturing facility. These will then be installed by AIS to valves and equipment in 12 of the Council’s leisure centres across North Tyneside, along with additional insulation materials applied to all exposed pipework. As well as helping to meet the local authority’s target to cut carbon emissions, the project will make a contribution towards reducing the council’s energy costs.

Exposed pipes are a major contributor to heat loss and, according to the Energy Saving Trust insulating pipe work, is one of the easier ways to reduce energy costs and cut carbon emissions. AIS’s jackets are proven to save up to £40 per year for each item of equipment meaning the savings quickly mount up and payment on investment can be achieved in very short timescales.

Paul Nelson, environmental sustainability manager at North Tyneside Council, said: “Reducing our carbon footprint is a key policy priority for North Tyneside Council and that is why we have set ourselves a 34% reduction target by the end of 2015/16 - 5 years ahead of the national target.

“We have delivered a number of projects to help achieve this and will continue to work through our delivery plan to take us beyond our target. We commissioned AIS following a rigorous procurement process to insulate all of the exposed pipe work within selected public buildings and we anticipate that this will help us to substantially reduce our energy bills at the same time as reducing our carbon footprint.”

Our Head of Technical, Chris Evans said: “We are delighted to win this important project with North Tyneside Council. We have invested heavily in innovative insulation materials and state-of-the-art energy reporting software, in line with guidance from the Carbon Trust, to provide accurate calculations of savings. Our insulation jackets have won numerous awards for their innovative and technical qualities. Our state-of-the-art machinery also ensures that we can engineer the most cost effective, energy efficient insulation systems with the most extensive life span and minimal wastage allowing us to pass savings on materials directly to our clients.

“These insulation jacketing systems will be tailor-made at our North Shields factory using local labour and we are looking forward to completing the project over the next few weeks.”

As well as specialist insulation products, we also design, manufacture and install a comprehensive range of award-winning safety critical and technical insulation products including passive fire protection to major clients all over the world. These jacketing solutions combat issues such as noise, corrosion, weather and temperature extremes in order to protect assets, create safer working environments and reduce operational costs.
